Our in-house Engineering Department designs and provides engineering support to manufacturing and field operations.

The Engineering Department designs equipment in accordance with relevant codes and standards using latest software and in-house calculation templates developed over years of effort. Our personnel are an efficient mix of qualified, experienced and young engineers which form a unique arm of institutional knowledge. The department carries out stamped calculations of pressure vessels in accordance with ASME Section VIII Div. 1 Code and employs full-time licensed professional engineers for this purpose. We also calculate tanks using years of experience to ensure safe and cost effective design solutions meeting codes and standards, and customers’ stringent specifications. Our experience covers vessels ranging in diameter up to 18 feet, with lengths exceeding 65 feet, using mainly stainless steels and at times, other high alloys.

Highland’s Engineering extends to piping design of sanitary, ASME BPE, high purity and other piping in accordance with ASME B31.3 & ASME B31.1. Piping and skid design is carried out utilizing Solidworks routing module. 

Highland routinely carries out chemical process, thermal and fluid dynamic design of mixing and heating equipment using tried and tested calculation methods developed over the years. Highland Equipment has designed many mixers and agitators to be used for a large range of sizes from 10 liters (2.5 US gallons) to over 40,000 liters (11,000 US gallons). The vast array of mixer types designed by Highland, include (but are not limited to) anchors, scrapers, pitched blade turbines, hydrofoils, sweepers, helical, paddles, etc. Where Highland finds it more cost effective, it will utilize third party specialist mixer manufacturers while providing critical input itself to achieve an optimum design for customer’s requirements. Almost any mixer type can be named and Highland would have certainly equipped its tanks successfully with it in the past – top entry, bottom entry, side entry, high shear, aerators, deaerators, blenders, dispensers, magnetic drive, high speed, low speed, horizontal, vertical – the list is unending.

Cutting edge software used by Highland’s engineering include Advanced Pressure Vessel by CEI (specialized pressure vessel design software), Solidworks Premium (3D CAD and FEA simulation), Autocad (for 2D drafting and P&ID), Mathcad (for in-house custom calculations) along with internally developed calculation spreadsheets.

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is also carried out quite frequently, whenever required.

Highland can arrange stamped design of small to medium sized stainless steel structures through external engineering expertise.
